Murdoch Environmental Restoration Group (MERG)
Murdoch Environmental Restoration Group (MERG) carries out restoration projects in the bushlands on Murdoch Campus to keep the environment healthy. We weed to clear out invasive plants, plant trees and shrubs to provide future habitat for animals, undertake phosphite treatment of dieback susceptible plant species, and other similar activities to ensure the ongoing success of campus bushlands.
Tree planting event in July, cockatoo nest tube monitoring monthly, nature reserve care and maintenance days, Great Cocky Count volunteer coordination, applying for grants for natural area management/ care and implementing those grants,student outreach events (i.e. Market Daze stalls), wildflower walks on campus, etc. Some event are fixed (such as the planting event in July) while others are developed on a fortnightly basis based on member availability and interest.
